5th grade curriculum centers mainly on the concepts and skills involved in creating a realistic work of art.  Students have an opportunity to attend a field trip at the end of the year to the

Minneapolis Institute of Arts, which will coincide with their classroom unit on the Revolutionary War.

"Our Ideal

"Realistic Self-Portrait" - artist Frida Kahlo, self-portrait, facial proportion, value through light and shadow, drawing

from observation

"CD Cover Design" - font, focal point

"Stabiles" - shape, paper sculpture, balance, artist Alexander Calder
