Cold Weather Reminder
Please make sure your child comes to school with hats, gloves/mittens, boots and a warm coat. Boots are especially important when there is snow and slush. If you do have boots for your child, please have them bring an extra pair of shoes to change into after recess (we’re trying to avoid wet feet).
Valentine’s Day Donations: We are asking for $1.00 from each second grader to cover the costs of Valentine’s treats for our class celebrations and activities.
Valentine’s Day for Second Grade
We would like to use Valentine’s Day as teaching tool about friendship and being kind. Please do not buy commercial Valentine’s for your child. We will be writing compliments on student-made hearts. This is great practice for their literacy skills. We will also be teaching them how to give and receive a meaningful compliment. This way every child can participate equally here at school. This takes pressure off of you to buy treats and cards. This is a real treat for all us! The teachers will be providing all the treats necessary for the students in conjunction with our math lesson on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Please do not send any other treats to school.
Just a reminder we do not allow children to chew gum in school.
Family Literacy Tip
Model for your child how to read with expression. Reading with expression helps communicate meaning as well as hold your child’s interest in the story. Have your child practice reading with expression, too.
Field Trips
We will be going to The Children’s Museum on FEBRUARY 15, 2012 And we will need CHAPERONES. If you would like to come along with your child and have a very enjoyable learning experience please contact your child’s teacher. We need at least 5 per class.
Thanks to everyone for the generous and delicious treats and classroom supplies. We are very appreciative. Thank you!
