  • A Look at the Many Ways Our School is Engaged in the Arts

    What is an Arts Residency?

An arts residency is an opportunity that we provide for every K-8 student at Linwood Monroe Arts Plus.  A residency is typically one to three weeks in length.  During that time, a professional artist or artists from our community come into our school to work with groups of students and teachers on a particular academic and/or artistic theme, topic or process.  Residencies are carefully planned, reflected upon and evaluated among teachers and artists.  Students have an opportunity to share the knowledge and experience gained in a Gathering, special performance or exhibition.  In doing arts residencies, we embed professional development for our teachers working side by side with an artist to strengthen their ability to teach in and through the arts.  Arts residencies are a marvelous opportunity for the Linwood Monroe learning community to learn from expert community artists.

    What is an Arts Partnership?

Arts Partnerships provide opportunities for our students, staff and larger community to join together with arts organizations or programs for the betterment of all involved.  Over the years, Linwood Monroe Arts Plus has enjoyed partnerships with countless organizations including Minnesota Public Radio, ArtStart, Stepping Stone Theater, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, TU Dance, VocalEssence, Twin Cities Opera Guild, Central High School Touring Theater, plus many more!

Performances and Exhibits in Our School

Throughout the course of a student's pre-k through 8th grade education at our school, there are many opportunities for children to participate in performing and visual arts. Some of these opportunities include visual art exhibits in our community, musical theatre productions, and dance, instrumental and choral performances.

    Arts Field Trips

One aspect of learning in and through the arts involves our students going out into our rich arts community to experience live music, theatre, dance and visual art. This year, LMAP students are attending performances and exhibits at the Ordway, Ted Mann Theater at the U of MN, Orchestra Hall, Children's Theater & O'shaughnessy.
