PreKindergarten
PreKindergarten is a half-day program offering quality early childhood education for four year olds, during their year before Kindergarten, at Linwood Monroe Arts Plus. PreKindergarten aims to provide our students with the foundational academic and social skills to be successful in Kindergarten.
Classes are taught by teacher Ms. Michele Walsh and educational assistant, Ying Khang. Classes have a maximum of twenty students. Special education students are served within the classroom, receiving extra support from a special education teacher, occupational therapist and speech therapist.
In PreKindergarten, students learn through both active play and structured group times. Conceptual learning is linked directly to the experience of the child and organized in monthly units to promote vocabulary development and rich exploration. The daily classroom schedule follows the Early Childhood Workshop model, and is listed below.
The physical space of the classroom is arranged intentionally to encourage relationship building, conversation between children and teachers in large and small groups and children’s encounters with natural and manufactured materials. The environment provides the space children need to work on projects that may take several days to complete.
